From Addiction to Purpose: Kevin's Story

How one man found freedom from addiction and a new calling through Washington Street Mission.

Three years ago, I walked through the doors of Washington Street Mission after 20 years of addiction. I was broken, homeless, and had lost everything - my family, my career, my dignity.

The first thing they gave me wasn't a lecture or a form to fill out. It was a cup of hot coffee and someone who actually listened. That was Michael, the director. He sat with me for an hour while I cried.

Washington Street Mission didn't just give me a meal and send me on my way. They walked with me through recovery, helped me get into the Transition House, and most importantly, introduced me to Jesus Christ.

Today, I work full-time at a local construction company and volunteer at the Mission every Saturday. I've reconciled with my daughter and met my grandchildren for the first time last year.

What I learned at Washington Street Mission is that love is patient. These people loved me before I could love myself. That's what Jesus does - and that's what this ministry does every single day for over 100 people who walk through those doors.
